CK Reads

We are proud to announce that our 2019 CK Reads title is "City of the Lost" by Kelley Armstrong! Request your copy today! CK Reads is a community-wide book club where everyone in Chatham-Kent is invited to read the same book. Through discussions and programs, CK Reads hopes to bring the community closer together through a shared love of reading!

Parent-Child Mother Goose

Dates: Tuesdays, January 15 to April 2 and April 9 to June 25.
Time: 10:00 am

Songs, rhymes and stories for children 0-18 months and their caregivers.  Please bring a blanket to sit on. This program is offered in partnership with our friends at EarlyON.

Reading Buddies

Dates: February 7, 14, 21, 28, March 7, 28, April 4, 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16
Appointment times: 6:00 pm / 6:30 pm / 7:00 pm

Reading Buddies offer free one-on-one assistance to children in grades 1 thru grade 6 who like practice reading.  Volunteers spend 30 minutes with each child encouraging and motivating them to read using literacy-based games, activities and high-interest readers. Registration required. 

Storytime

Date: Thursdays - March 7, 21, 28, April 4, 11 and 18
Time: 10:45 am

Children, parents and caregivers will enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, rhythm instruments and crafts. Registration not required.

LEGO

March Break Never Neverland

Date: March 11 to March 16

We are off to Never Neverland!  "Just think of happy things" and join us all week on a fantastical adventure as we have fun with  fairies, giants, pirates, unicorns and trolls. Be entertained at the Captain Corbin Magic Show and be mystified by his magical powers. Receive a ballot for every program you attend and be entered in a draw to win a prize. 
Be sure to check out our "Hidden Gems" Children's Fiction Book Display. For each "Hidden Gem" book you borrow, receive a ballot to be entered in a draw to win a Walmart Gift Card.

Epilepsy And Seizure First Aid – Seizure 101

Presented by Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario

Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario developed Seizures 101 presentations to educate adults of all ages about epilepsy and seizure first aid. The presentation aims to dispel myths, explain epilepsy, how seizures occur and how seizure disorders are diagnosed, managed and treated. Participants will be able to identify different types of seizures, implement appropriate seizure first aid techniques and accommodate people living with epilepsy. Registration not required. For more information call 519.365.5132.

CKPL Grows Seed Library

Borrow seeds for free, save the seeds you grow, and return some of the seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season.

CKPL Grows Seed Library provides an opportunity for residents of Chatham-Kent to grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable food and create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and local communities. Chatham-Kent Public Library members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow, and return some of the seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season. CKPL Grows Seed Libraries are available at the Blenheim, Chatham, Merlin, Ridgetown, Thamesville, Tilbury and Wallaceburg Branches.

Pop by any participating branch starting March 20 and get your seeds for the growing season!

ID Clinic

We can assist with applying for a Birth Certificate and/or Photo ID Card.  Service Canada will be onsite to issue Social Insurance Numbers and/or Personal Access Codes. Financial screening will be available to determine if you qualify to have the cost of ID covered. Pick up a "What Do I Need to Bring" bookmark at your local library today. Appointments available on a first come, first serve basis.

Baldoon Tapestry Project Show and Tell

Presented by the Tulip Tree Needlearts Guild of Chatham-Kent. 
The Baldoon tapestry celebrates local history with an embroidered panel. Members will be available to answer questions about the tapestry and the Baldoon settlement. Learn more about the project and even set a stitch or two. Registration is not required.

Adult Colouring and Puzzles

What a great way to spend a few minutes or hours! Colouring is a great way to de-stress and relax. Open to everyone ages 16 and older. We even provide the materials! We have a large poster to complete that reads, "Love Your Library." Drop in. 

Scrabble Club

How do you spell fun?  S-C-R-A-B-B-L-E!  Drop in to the Wallaceburg Branch for a friendly game. All skills levels are welcome. Bring your own board or borrow one from the library. Registration is not required.

Do you like to knit or crochet? Would you like to learn how? Join us every Thursday afternoon to trade patterns, give suggestions or to learn how to knit or crochet. Always something different for the change in season!

Group / School Visits

Class visits or group visits are always welcome at the Wallaceburg Branch. Come for a visit, browse the books, find out about our free databases or participate in a program designed just for you. Contact our staff 519.627.5292 to arrange a visit. Visits are arranged around the needs of the class and teacher.
