Using a wide range of reference resources, our staff will assist patrons with their browsing and research needs. Fiction by area authors past and present, community histories, local biographies, and access to a variety of information on microfilm will be some of the featured resources. For those budding genealogists, CKPL can help you get started in expanding your family tree. Use our local genealogical resources or have us do the research for you.
CKPL has a wealth of local genealogical resources stored in the McKeough Local History Room at the Chatham location.
Additional resources are available in the next room at the Ontario Genealogical Society’s Kent Branch.
Both library staff and OGS volunteers are available to help you get started and to help make your family history search a little easier.

CKPL offers research services for those who are not able to access the archives in person.
The fee for this service is $45.00 per hour, with a minimum charge of $12.00. An additional $1.00 for postage and $0.25 per page for printouts also applies.
When submitting an information request, please provide any information you think will be helpful.
We are more likely to find useful information for you when your request is for something specific. Wherever possible, try to limit requests to a particular individual, organization, or company and specify the type of record you would like searched (for example, census records, newspapers, directories or cemetery records).
Also, so we don't search a resource you've already looked at, please let us know which resources you have already searched and information you have already discovered.
Once you have submitted an information request, our Local History Librarian will contact you with a search timeline, progress of the search, and final payment.
