The primary goal of the review was to develop priorities and strategies for the next three to five years. This included finding a consistent approach to resolving outstanding issues and providing a clear direction for the future of CKPL.
The review was conducted by dmA Planning and Management Services. It identified significant gaps in collections, facilities, staffing, governance, training, and resource allocations.
On December 16, 2008, the Chatham-Kent Public Library Board accepted, in principle, the resulting Library Master Plan and Community Needs Assessment report. On January 12, 2009, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council also accepted, in principle, the final report.
The final Library Master Plan and Community Needs Assessment includes 61 recommendations based on the three main strategies of Facilities, Programs and Services, and Management and Governance.
