A Salvage Yard is described as an establishment or Premises where Salvage Materials are stored wholly or partly in the open, including junk yards, scrap yards, and automobile wrecking yards if the establishment receives Salvage Materials.

Salvage Materials is described as metal scrap, or wiring.

Application Requirements:

  • Zoning approval from the Chatham-Kent Building Department

  • Police clearances for applicants, current employees and new employees

  • A copy of the Master Business Licence (via Service Ontario)

Licence Requirements:

  • Salvage Materials may not be accepted from any person who is known to be or appears to be under the age of eighteen (18) or under the influence of alcohol or drugs or vulnerable for any other reason

  • Must obtain government issued identification with photograph and name of person selling, exchanging or disposing of Salvage Materials 
  • A register of the purchases of the previous week must be submitted weekly to Police Services. A register must be obtained by the business owner for one year

  • Expiry Date: End of the month plus one year from date of issuance

Licence issuance is subject to inspection approvals and completed application requirements.
