Old Gold or Other Precious Metals licences are issued based on 4 classifications. The classifications are defined as follows:
Class A - per event - up to 3 consecutive days (one location)
Class A1: Commercial Taxpayer
Class A2: Non-Commercial Taxpayer
Class B - 4 days to 1 year (one location)
Class B1: Commercial Taxpayer
Class B2: Non-Commercial Taxpayer
Commercial Taxpayer is described as a person who pays property taxes to the Municipality, whether directly or through a tenancy, on a commercial property related to the Business.
Non-Commercial Taxpayer is described as a person who does not pay property taxes to the Municipality on a commercial property related to the business.
Old Gold or Other Precious Metals are described as used gold, precious metals, jewellery or other similar articles.
Old Gold or other Precious Metals Dealer is described as a Business dealing in Old Gold or other Precious Metals or other similar articles, including but not limited to, buying, selling or trading such items.
Zoning approval from the Chatham-Kent Building Department
Police Clearance for applicants, current employees and new employees
A copy of the Master Business Licence (via Service Ontario)
Safety deposit box location
Old Gold or other Previous Metals may not be accepted from any person who is known to be or appears to be under the age of eighteen (18) or under the influence of alcohol or drugs or vulnerable for any other reason
Must obtain government issued identification with photograph and name of person selling, exchanging or disposing of Old Gold or Other Precious Metals
A register must be submitted weekly to Police Services along with pictures of each item obtained. A register must be retained by the business owner for one year. A copy of the register is in the downloads section on the right.
Old Gold or Other Precious Metals must be kept in safety deposit box on location or alternate location in the Municipality, approved by Issuer of Licences, for minimum of 15 days
Class B Licences:
* 30% late fee added to applications not received two weeks in advance
Licence Expiry Date: Varies per classification and application request
Licence issuance is subject to inspection approvals and completed application requirements.
