CKPL Celebrates Ontario Public Library Week October 19 to 24
Ontario Public Library Week is celebrated every year in October during Canadian Library Month. Libraries and library partners across Canada take this time to raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in all our lives. This year’s theme is “One Card, One Million Possibilities”.
2020 has been an unprecedented year for public libraries across Canada and around the world. In Chatham-Kent, residents were without physical library services from mid-March to mid-June leaving a terrible void for our library patrons who understand that their library card does hold one million possibilities!
CKPL is feeling the love from their patrons again with the return of library services in mid-June. Since CKPL’s re-opening, 35,688 holds have been placed on materials located in our branches, approximately 9,000 curbside pick ups, 87,134 items checked out, 310 new library cards made and 91,022 digital downloads from CKPL’s virtual library! This use demonstrates the need and demand for library services across the municipality – and just some of the possibilities your library card offers!
Staff are proactively engaged in virtual programming: check out CKPL’s LitBits videos, “Staff Shelfies” on CKPL’s Facebook, our Weekly Trivia Night on Wednesdays and online Book Clubs. As well, all library locations are now open for browsing and computer usage with wifi spots available for people with their own devices. Staff welcome back all residents to rediscover the million possibilities at CKPL! Check out our website at www.ckpl.ca for a complete list of open hours.
