"Closing all schools and childcares, but allowing for the youth to congregate in other capacities or in other venues, defeats the purpose of the closures all together" said Colby.

"The science, says Colby, shows that social distancing is the most powerful intervention in slowing the spread of disease."

Below is a list of Municipal facilities, events and programs that are cancelled.

Capitol & Kiwanis Theatre

Capitol Theatre and Kiwanis Theatre are closed.
Ticketholders to events at the Capitol and Kiwanis Theatres will be updated on an ongoing basis. Should a theatre event be cancelled or postponed, ticketholders will be contacted regarding refunds, rescheduled dates, etc. Events by external renters may not necessarily be cancelled; renters will be contacted individually.

Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee

Due to the current restrictions relating to COVID-19, the Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee awards presentation that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 17th at Eden Villa Retirement Assistant Living in Chatham is cancelled.

Chatham-Kent Public Library

While we work to minimize the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) by closing all eleven locations of Chatham-Kent Public Library, we encourage you to take advantage of our digital content at www.ckpl.ca/download.

  • Watch movies and TV shows on Hoopla and Kanopy. Kanopy has provided unlimited viewing of content from Collective Eye Films, FilmRise, Samual Goldwyn, Films We Like, Media Education Foundation and NYX for the next 30 days. Enjoy unlimited access to Kanopy Kids for the next month too, with quality educational content like Sesame Street, Arthur and a language learning series.
  • Read eapbooks and audiobooks using OverDrive (Libby) and cloudLibrary. Hoopla also has graphic novels, audiobooks and music!
  • Kids can read ebooks and audiobooks on TumbleBooks, where they'll find animated talking picture books, read-alongs, graphic novels, games, puzzles and more!  

 

While we're closed, follow us on social media where we will recommend great books and movies and post helpful hints and tutorials for accessing virtual materials. The library has lots of ideas for fun activities to do at home to help entertain the whole family!

Provincial Offences Court

In order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus,  the Chief Justice of Ontario Court of Justice has ordered that all Provincial Offences Court matters between March 16 and April 3 be adjourned to another date.  This means that if you have a court date scheduled during this time PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND COURT and you will be notified of your next court date.  If you have been summonsed to appear as a witness during this time please do not attend court but contact the office for the new date.

 For fine payments you are encouraged to utilize www.paytickets.ca, or call to make a phone credit card payment or mail your payment.    The office is open but you are encouraged to call 519-352-8484 before attending.

Recreation Facilities

All public skates, arena programs and private events are cancelled.

Recreation Programming

Program and Event Cancellations

Please be advised that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and following the advice of the CK Medical Officer of Health, all recreation, arts and culture programs including public swimming and March Break programs are cancelled indefinitely. Refunds will be issued where applicable.

During this time all facilities will remain open, with limited access to interactive exhibitions. This includes Gable Rees Rotary Pool, Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool, Ridge House Museum, CK Museum, Capitol Theatre, Kiwanis Theatre, ARTspace, and the Thames Art Gallery.

Program Registrations

All program registrations for Spring session are postponed indefinitely.

Riverview Gardens

The Ministry of Health has issued that long term care and retirement homes, hospice and supporting housing only allow essential visitors into their facilities until further notice.

Rural Tourism Symposium

In response to the current situation surrounding Covid-19, Chatham Kent Tourism is postponing the upcoming Rural Tourism Symposium, set to take place at Ridgetown College on April 23, 2020.

We have been in consultation with co-sponsors, and sponsors and at this time, feel this is the best course of action to take. A new date has not been selected, and an announcement on when the event will be held, will follow at a later date.

Refunds for those who have purchased tickets will be given. Chatham-Kent Tourism will be personally reaching out to all who have registered in the coming days. Speakers and sponsors are also being contacted.
