Public input sought to shape presentation on Chatham-Kent Lake Erie Shoreline Study

The municipality is seeking public input to help shape a presentation on the Chatham-Kent Lake Erie Shoreline Study to be made to Chatham-Kent Council Monday night.

Author Peter Zuzek will be presenting highlights of the 181-page report before council.

“The sheer volume of the information in the study makes it impossible for Mr. Zuzek to review every item in it during a council session,” said Thomas Kelly, Chatham-Kent General Manager of Infrastructure and Engineering Services.

“We have made the study available online and ask that anyone who has questions about a particular section or topic to please forward those questions to us in advance. We will then pass the questions on to Mr. Zuzek to be addressed.”

Questions may be emailed to ckies@chatham-kent.ca by noon on Monday, May 4, 2020.

The public can view the study at https://portal.chatham-kent.ca/downloads/es/CKLakeErieSS_LR.pdf

The study, two years in the making, explores the influence of climate change on future coastal hazards due to changes in storms and ice cover and the associated challenges for the coastal communities of Chatham-Kent. The Municipality, along with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, researchers from Zuzek Inc., and the University of Waterloo collaborated on the study.

Council will also examine a report on recommendations in the study during its Monday May 4 night session beginning at 6:00 p.m. That report can be found at https://www.chatham-kent.ca/Council/Meetings/2019/Documents/May/May-4-10a.pdf
