COVID-19 information session on Facebook Live Tuesday March 24 at 12:15 p.m.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby, Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance President and CEO Lori Marshall will participate in an online COVID-19 question and answer session via Facebook Live Tuesday, March 24 at 12:15.

The meeting will be livestreamed through the municipality’s Facebook page, where viewers will be able to submit questions through Facebook as the event unfolds. Viewers will be also able to view the session on the Facebook site once it concludes.

Mayor Canniff said the session allows residents direct access to those in positions of authority as the community deals with the pandemic.

“Most residents have done an amazing job in following directions in limiting their interactions practising social distancing by staying two metres apart and being diligent about washing their hands, but the next week is crucial,” he said.

“There are others who just don’t get it – they are placing their health and that of their loved ones and the entire community in jeopardy. They need to stop their selfish behavior.”

Regarding the Facebook live session the mayor said, “I have already received a number of great questions from residents and I’m looking for people to join us tomorrow with more.”

The mayor said there is a flood of misinformation on social media and urges residents to rely on official sources for direction.

“This is no time to be relying on rumours or speculation,” Canniff said. “We may not have all the answers but we will provide as much accurate scientific and medical information as we can.”
