• Road closure and construction were unplanned but immediately necessary to replace underground infrastructure after a sinkhole appeared, and inspections discovered a failed drainage culvert under the roadway
  • In a previous media release, Tim Dick, Chatham-Kent director of drainage, asset and waste management, said the repair is a complicated project with a deep excavation and numerous utilities to be re-routed
  • There is also a need to sustain drainage under the road to the river during the construction. This, along with a series of other safety factors, has limited the ability to open a lane for traffic
  • Brigan Barlow, Drainage Superintendent estimates up to 4 weeks from today for road reopening
  • Construction crew worktime is being maximized on site
  • Security is on site nightly to avoid project delays that have occurred from vandals damaging equipment after hours and compromising site safety
  • Weather and unforeseen circumstances may cause project delays
  • Economic Development department will continue to promote that all businesses on Grand Ave., West remain open
  • Economic Development will continue to communicate whenever we are updated by the project manager
