“One of the top requests we receive from businesses is help with their marketing and communications, and we have held several sessions on social media which have been very well received,” said Rosemarie Montgomery, Business Consultant with the Chatham-Kent Small Business Centre. “Following an event in the summer we were contacted by some local media experts who offered to work with us to put on this new event. Businesses were asking us for the session and we had experts ready to help, so it was a perfect fit.”

Traditional media, which includes radio and newspaper, continues to play an important role in communicating with people of all ages. The event will inform attendees about how to work with local media to promote no-cost activities and low-cost campaigns that will provide results without breaking the bank.

“If you’re trying to reach a local audience, then adding local traditional media to your marketing plan is essential,” said Andrew Tompsett, Marketing and Communications Officer with Chatham-Kent Economic Development. “Our event is going to start with newspaper and radio, but we also want to touch on local magazines, billboards, television, and other avenues to reach people create a strong marketing mix.”

The Maximizing Local Media for Business event will feature presentations with both print and radio media experts including Bruce Corcoran from the Chatham Voice, and Greg Hetherington and Nick Cadotte from 99.1 FM.

“In addition to requests for marketing seminars, businesses have also told us that they need an easy way to find their local media options,” said Tompsett. “That’s why we have developed an Advertising Directory on our website which includes a wide range of media and is frequently being updated with the latest information.”

The event is open to business owners and the public. You can register for the event by visiting the Chatham-Kent Small Business Centre website at
