Electricity: Flip the Switch on Success

Hydro One – The largest electricity transmission and distribution company in Ontario, Hydro One provides service to most rural properties in the Municipality.

Entegrus – This grassroots organization (Municipality of Chatham-Kent maintains a majority ownership stake) provides electricity supply, transmission, and distribution throughout 16 communities in Southwestern Ontario. When it comes to keeping the lights on, more than 40,000 customers and hundreds of local businesses rely on this local provider.

Water & Wastewater Treatment: Fluid Functionality

Lowest water rates in Southwestern OntarioDrawing from both surface water and ground water sources, the Chatham-Kent PUC currently operates the following:

  • Six water treatment plants/distribution systems
  • Approximately 1,710 km of water mains, 3,321 hydrants and 39,636 customer connections
  • Eight waste water treatment plants/collection systems
  • Approximately 533 km of sanitary sewers lines, 50 km of combined sanitary and storm sewer lines, 23,381 km of private drain connections and 29,493 customer connections to sanitary sewers

Waste Disposal

The Waste and Recycling Services Department oversees the garbage and recycling collection services for nearly 50,000 properties and operates eight transfer stations and nine leaf and yard depots.
