Special Populations

The Chatham-Kent Special Populations program develops and implements a wide variety of year-round recreation and leisure programs, special events, and services to meet the interest and needs of children, teens, adults, and seniors with physical, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities.

Programs are designed to enhance and/or maintain leisure skills, socialization, and overall sense of well-being.

The Special Populations Program is offered throughout Chatham-Kent in both urban and rural setting areas.

Programs

Examples of our programs or program areas include:

  • Sport Activities
  • Physical Fitness Program
  • General Recreation
  • Social Functions and Events
  • Leisure Education
  • Summer Programs
  • Fund Raising

Summer Camps

These unique summer camps offer youth the opportunity to participate in various week-long summer activities. Contact the Special Populations Coordinator at 519-360-1998 for more information.

Our Goal

The Chatham-Kent Special Populations Program promotes self-esteem, independence, health and safety.

Our goal is to promote emotional and psychological well being of the children and youth who participate in the program. Participants are encouraged to grow to the best of their abilities.

By giving special needs children and youth an opportunity to interact with their peers and adults on a variety of recreational and social levels, the individuals develop self confidence, trust and independence.

Children that participate in programs, strengthen gross, fine motor skills, daily living skills, as well as sensory, social and academic enhancements.
