Chatham-Kent: In order to provide greater service to the community, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent (C-K) and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) are sharing internet infrastructure to deploy two new services.
The CKHA’s new Patient Appointment Request Service required the use of a security system that would enable a citizen to create a user name and password, in order to receive access to restricted information and services. This web-enabled security piece, called the Identity Management System, ensures that security and confidentiality mechanisms have been put in place when transferring or providing information to a user, or that only approved users have access to particular information and services.
The Identity Management System was an essential component of the delivery of the Patient Appointment Request Service and will provide a solid foundation for the development of other secure web-based services in the future. As a result, C-K implemented the system in partnership with the CKHA. Both the Identity Management System and the Patient Appointment Request Service were funded in part by the Connect Ontario grant and were developed by the consultant Concept Interactive Inc., of Cambridge Ontario.
The development of these applications has received full support and endorsement from the Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrator’s group (CKLAG), a consortium of public sector organizations that work together to share resources, create efficiencies and collectively conserve resources for the taxpayers of the district. The CKLAG mandate endeavours to reduce duplication and thereby expenditures in order to be better, more efficient organizations.
“This partnership provides a win-win situation for both of our organizations and the community. We have made a commitment to the delivery of web-based services. Sharing infrastructure, resources and expertise to deliver on-line service brings increased benefit to our community and assists in the long-term plan for sustainability of our web initiatives” notes Helen McLaren, Director of Information Technology Services for the Municipality.
