Van Bommel Announces $894,000 to Assist New Manufacturing
January 21, 2010
WALLACEBURG – Local MPP Maria Van Bommel was in town today to announce that Ontario is supporting the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Wallaceburg, which will create approximately 64 new jobs in the area when the facility opens in summer 2010.
“It’s wonderful to join you all in celebrating more good news for Wallaceburg,” said Van Bommel while addressing a large crowd gathered at the Oaks Inn to hear the announcement. “I am pleased to join Precismeca Ltd., a recognized leader in providing conveyor systems for the mining industry, who is investing nearly $3 million to equip the plant, including an $894,000 loan from Ontario’s Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS).”
“Our local workforce is the main reason why Precismeca has chosen to relocate here from Alberta, because the available talent will ensure the company is able to achieve its long-term business growth plans,” said Van Bommel.
The provincial funding will be used towards the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment and design software, giving the company a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Partnering with business is a key component of the government's five-point economic plan to grow the economy.
“The hard work of the municipality, the Wallaceburg Community Task Force and the provincial government is paying dividends in the form of new investments and new jobs,” said Van Bommel. “As Ontario continues to emerge, stronger than ever, from the economic downtown, I am confident that there are brighter days ahead for Wallaceburg and Ontario’s manufacturing sector.”
“We’re happy to welcome Precismeca to Ontario. International business decision-makers continue to choose Ontario because our focus on advanced technology, our highly skilled and educated workforce, and our competitive business costs make us a premier investment destination.”
– Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development and Trade
“This is a great good news story for the people of Chatham-Kent,” said Mayor Randy Hope. “The Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce was first approached by Precismeca in May 2007 to find out about our community. The chamber, the Wallaceburg Community Task Force and municipal staff then worked with the company to help make this day possible. Chatham-Kent Council recognized the importance of paving the way for this venture and approved the property arrangement. The MPP, Maria Van Bommel, was extremely supportive and the Province of Ontario responded with funding. On behalf of everyone involved, I wish to express the gratitude of Chatham-Kent Council. This is true community economic develop… it’s people working with people.”
“Our growth plans depend on attracting and retaining skilled workers and made relocating to Ontario a sound business decision. We are grateful for the support we have received from the province and are excited to becoming part of the Wallaceburg community and economy.”
– Joe Hartney, President and Chief Executive Officer, Precismeca Ltd.
