Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Municipal Youth Council do?
We literally "take ideas from the youth, make them a reality through the youth, to improve life for the youth." We listen to what the youth in the community are saying about Chatham-Kent. We then educate ourselves and find ways to bring about change. Then... we do it!
How does the Municipal Youth Council work?
The Municipal Youth Council (MYC) is made up of young people from all over the municipality. The Executive decide what projects will be undertaken then form subcommittees (or working groups) to bring the ideas to life. For more information on membership and organization, contact us at
CKmyc@chatham-kent.ca
.
What role do adults play?
MYC is a youth-led, youth-driven organization. But sometimes we need help and guidance. We have a full-time Coordinator and the support of various municipal departments to help us along.
How can I get involved?
If you're between 14 and 24, you can join us anytime as a General Member. General Members help out on projects that interest them. If you'd like more information, email us at
CKmyc@chatham-kent.ca
.
Does MYC have any power with Municipal Council?
Issues that MYC would like to bring to Municipal Council for their consideration are done so through presentations at Council meetings. Municipal Council then votes on the issues. The MYC has the guidance of municipal staff to assist with the process of bringing reports forward to Council.
