Election Employment Information
The municipal election will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be putting together a team of more than 300 election officials to ensure that a fair and accurate election is conducted.

This will be a diverse team of civic-minded individuals, residents, citizens, neighbours, retirees, and students.

Applications were received until Friday, July 30, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.

Successful candidates will be notified in early September 2010 advising of their training date and voting location information.

Job Description for the Election Officials positions:

Greeter
(Rate of Pay: $150 includes training plus mileage incurred

Greeters meet and assist Electors upon entering the Voting Location. They will be able to identify and help Electors with special needs, for example opening doors for elderly and/or people with accessibility needs. Greeters will aid Electors in finding the correct voting subdivision to report to or direct to the Revision Clerk if necessary. Greeters also assist with setting up the Voting Location and with clean up at the conclusion of the Voting Day.

Revision Clerk
(Rate of Pay: $175 includes training plus mileage incurred)

Revision Clerks process amendments to the Voters’ List by confirming identification requirements, instructing and assisting with the completion of required forms, making amendments to the Voters’ List and ensuring Electors attend the correct DRO. Revision Clerks also assist with setting up the Voting Location and with clean up at the conclusion of the Voting Day.  

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)
(Rate of Pay: $200 includes training plus mileage incurred)

DROs confirm identification and Voter List requirements, make appropriate notations in the Voters’ List, issue ballots and administer oaths as required. DROs also reconcile ballots by type and number and complete forms prior to and after the close of the Voting Location. DROs also assist with setting up the Voting Location and with clean up at the conclusion of the Voting Day.

Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO)
(Rate of Pay: $200 includes training plus mileage incurred)

TDROs process ballots issued by the DRO using the optical scan automated Vote Tabulators ensuring access and secrecy. TDROs are to provide tape results at the beginning and close of Voting Day. TDROs set up Tabulators prior to opening of polls and return Tabulator with memory cards to Election Headquarters or designated Municipal Centre at the conclusion of Voting Day for final download of election results.

Site Manager
(Rate of Pay: $225 includes training plus mileage incurred)

Site Manager oversees the smooth operation of the entire site and will help out and relieve Election Officials in any of the other positions. See above descriptions. Site Manager ensures scrutineers adhere to Voting Location appointment requirements and that they are provided with Tabulator tape results at the beginning and close of voting. Site Manager also assists with setting up Voting Locations and with returning election materials to Election Headquarters or designated Municipal Centre after the close of the Voting Location as required.

Mobile Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO)
(Rate of Pay: $200 includes training plus mileage incurred)

The MDRO will travel to Institutions to administer and collect votes by paper ballot. MDROs will complete their duties at Institutions by 5 p.m., at which time they will report to a regular poll already assigned or, determined at that time by the Clerk or Returning Officer and assume a position and duties assigned by that Site Manager. At the close of the regular polls the MDRO with the TDRO will run ballots collected at Institutions through the tabulator of the regular poll location at which they have been assigned.

Emergency On-Call Election Official
(Rate of Pay: $100 includes training plus mileage incurred)

The role of the Emergency On-Call Election Official will be to fill in any of the above positions as required. The fee will be topped up to the appropriate level depending on the position filled, the $100 fee will be paid regardless if called to work or not.
