In December 2010, Council came together to describe the ideal Chatham-Kent. The process included brainstorming ideas and then grouping them according to their similarities. The results were six measureable Directions that will support Chatham-Kent in accomplishing its vision.
- Healthy, Active Citizens
- Growth Through Variety of Post Secondary Institutions
- High Quality Environment Through Innovation
- Destination Chatham-Kent!
- Magnet for Sustainable Growth
- Prosperous and Thriving Community
Next Council determined the obstacles that would hinder them in fulfilling the vision.
Lastly Council determined how they would need to lead in order to overcome these obstacles. Five Strategies were identified:
- Engage the Community in Moving the Vision Forward
- Facilitate Partnerships with Other Levels of Government
- Reprioritize Based on Our Vision
- Promote and Implement Our Shared Vision
- Lead with Courage and Conviction to Achieve Our Vision

Council received a presentation from the Chair and Vice Chair of the Community Strategic Planning Committee (CSPC) to set the tone for the December strategic planning session. The presentation was developed to:
- Inspire Council to work toward our community vision statement of being the fastest growing sustainable community in Southwestern Ontario
- Highlight relevant trends within Chatham-Kent
- Encourage thoughtful, long-term municipal planning through a holistic, interconnected approach
This presentation was structured in three parts and is available as a download at the right side of the screen. In the first part, the committee reviewed where Chatham-Kent is now and gave Council an update on each of Chatham-Kent’s strategic priorities. In the second part of the presentation, they reviewed some key concepts related to the Chatham-Kent vision statement to inspire the direction for Council’s strategic planning. And at the end of the presentation, they challenged Council to think about how we can achieve this audacious vision.
CHATHAM-KENT'S VISION
