Chatham-Kent Council Action Plan 2011-2014

On November 14, 2011 Council endorsed the Chatham-Kent Council Action Plan 2011-2014. This plan is available as a download at the right side of the screen in both electronic and printable versions.

The Chatham-Kent Council Action Plan 2011 – 2014 provides more details of Council’s strategic planning to date.

Council Directions are both bold and visionary. Council and the community recognize that the Municipality does not have the financial resources or the organizational capacity to do everything at once. Through the Mayor’s Call to Action, everyone has a role to play in helping achieve our community’s vision.

Council’s eight Actions have set clear municipal initiatives that are achievable and will result in desired community outcomes.

Council’s eight Actions are:

COUNCIL ACTION #1 - Chatham-Kent Community Development Forum

Municipal Initiative: Institute a CK Community Development Forum to help achieve CK’s vision and Council’s Directions by providing an open, televised forum to share information on community development issues

Desired Community Outcome: Community development

COUNCIL ACTION #2 - Chatham-Kent Community Marketing Program

Municipal Initiative: Institute a CK Community Marketing Program

Desired Community Outcome: Genuine community self-image and world image; Fulfillment of the CK Community Vision

COUNCIL ACTION #3 - Mentoring Initiatives

Municipal Initiative: Institute Phase 3 of Newcomers Portal; Establish a mentoring program; Expand the Summer Company Program

Desired Community Outcome: Youth attracted and retained; Jobs for youth; Newcomers attracted

COUNCIL ACTION #4 - Monitor Progress on Council’s Directions

Municipal Initiative: Create a Community Report; Create an Annual Corporate Report

Desired Community Outcome: Elected officials and the community knows how we are progressing towards our Vision

COUNCIL ACTION #5 - Reprioritize the Budget

Municipal Initiative: Conduct a service review; Develop processes to reprioritize the budget

Desired Community Outcome: Maximize the effectiveness of funding; Linking budget to Council’s directions

COUNCIL ACTION #6 - Leveraging Funding Sources

Municipal Initiative: Facilitate search for additional funding; establish an inventory of options; research and coordinate funding opportunities

Desired Community Outcome: Additional resources for CK

COUNCIL ACTION #7 - Facilitate Partnerships

Municipal Initiative: Represent CK on select National, Provincial and Regional boards; Host National, Provincial and Regional events in CK; Participate in National, Provincial, and Regional events

Desired Community Outcome: CK profile world-wide

COUNCIL ACTION #8 - Community Engagement

Municipal Initiative: Adopt a Civic Engagement Policy; Pilot an Ambassador Program; Capitalize on all appropriate means of communication including social media

Desired Community Outcome: Every citizen in CK participating in delivering our Vision.

Background:

In December 2010, Council came together to describe the ideal Chatham-Kent. The process included brainstorming ideas and then grouping them according to their similarities. The results were six measurable Directions that will support Chatham-Kent in accomplishing its vision. Next Council determined the obstacles that would hinder them in fulfilling the vision. Lastly Council determined how they need to lead in order to overcome these obstacles. Five Strategies were identified.

In October 2011, Municipal Council and senior administration came together to collectively determine how Council’s Strategies could be acted on. This exercise produced eight Council Actions and resulting municipal initiatives, as shown above.
