Special Needs Housing

Special Needs Housing is made available for occupancy by a household having one or more individuals who require accessibility modifications or provincially-funded support services in order to live independently in the community.

Supportive Housing

The following providers provide supportive housing units within Chatham-Kent:

An application for special needs or supportive housing must include full particulars of the reasons why one or more of the members of the household requires special needs housing and any supporting documentation all of which shall be provided to Chatham-Kent Housing Services, who will act as lead agency for maintenance of the special needs waiting list.

A household is eligible for special needs housing if one or more of its members require accessibility modifications or provincially-funded support services in order to live independently in the community.

A household need not be eligible for rent geared-to-income assistance in order to be eligible for special needs housing. A household occupying special needs housing shall notify the housing provider or lead agency of changes in a document or information within 10 days after each change. Once in every 12 month period after a household is determined to be eligible for special needs housing, the supportive housing provider shall review the eligibility of the household to determine whether the household continues to be eligible for special needs housing and if the household is occupying special needs housing, whether the household continues to be eligible for the unit it occupies. The household shall provide such information and documents as the provider may require within the time period specified by the provider.
