On behalf of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Children's Services provides eligible parents with assistance in paying for childcare costs, under the Provincial Day Nurseries Act and the Municipality's Childcare Policy. The Municipality purchases childcare services from childcare centres throughout Chatham-Kent. The Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services licenses all the childcare centres that are contracted by the Municipality.
How to Apply for a Childcare Subsidy
Parents who are residents of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent may contact the childcare caseworker at 351-8573, extension 2131 or 2132. An appointment will be made for an application and an "income test" to determine eligibility. Full and partial subsidies are available depending on your income.
In order for your application for childcare subsidy to be completed, the following documents must be provided to determine accurate income. If these documents are not made available at the time of interview, a decision regarding your subsidy eligibility may be delayed.
Necessary documents include:
- birth verification (certificates, baptismal certificate, citizenship) for adults and dependents, as well as SINs for adults
- verification of any and all incomes, such as with an earnings statement (income verification is required whether from a job, unemployment insurance, pension or Ontario Works)
- OSAP papers (if applicable)
- Income Tax Notice of Assessment or Child Tax Benefit for the most current year
