Ontario Genealogical Society - Kent Branch
The Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) is a volunteer run organization with over 800 volunteers committed to the organization and its aim to assist and bring together those pursuing their family history.

It has 31 branches across Ontario with its main provincial branch located in Toronto. Together the volunteers have transcribed 95 percent of Ontario’s cemeteries and have produced original research, indexes, and “How to…” books and CDs.

Notable books are Genealogy in Ontario: Searching the Records by Brenda Merriman and the series Index To The Upper Canada Land Books, edited by Susan Smart.
In the last 40 years OGS has been an excellent source of primary genealogical research material. All branches have excellent genealogy resources and knowledgeable staff who can help those new to genealogy or those with years of experience expand their family trees.

Kent Branch

The Kent Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society is located on the second floor of the Chatham-Kent Public Library, right next to the McKeough Local History Room.

It is run by volunteers and is opened Monday through Saturday, 1pm to 5pm. The Ontario Genealogical Society has access to a wealth of genealogical information within and beyond Chatham-Kent.

If you are searching for family and have used all the resources in the McKeough Local History Room, the Ontario Genealogical Society is a great place to further your search. The volunteers are very knowledgeable in this subject and are very welcoming to all walk-in visitors. They can direct you to useful resources housed in their collection or recommend you to other OGS branches and genealogical organizations.
