Birth, Marriage, and Death Records
Birth, Marriage, and Death Records for Ontario:

The following records are publicly available on microfilm and can be accessed through the Archives of Ontario:
  • Births: 1869-1912
  • Marriages: 1801-1927 (Note: There are many gaps in marriage records before 1869)
  • Deaths: 1869-1937
Note: Every year the Office of the Registrar General makes another year available to the public, so, for example, in 2010 the death records for the year 1938 will be available.

You can access the indexes for Kent County at the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS), Kent Branch, located on the second floor of the Chatham-Kent Public Library.
The indexes are also accessible through Ancestry.ca (although gaps in the indexes do occur). If you do not have access to Ancestry.ca, you can access it through one of the library’s public computer work stations for Ancestry library edition.
Once you have attained the Registration Number and Registration Year from the index you can then request the desired microfilm as an inter-library loan through the Chatham-Kent Public Library from the Archives of Ontario (max. 3 reels).
