On January 1, 1998, the Chatham Public Library and the Kent County Library merged to form the Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL). CKPL serves the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, which at 2,400 square kilometres, ranks as the second largest municipality (by geographic boundaries) in all of Ontario.
CKPL is the first library system in Ontario to offer Municipal Services at some of its branches. Branch staff is trained to provide a wide range of services – from issuing marriage licenses and burial permits to selling dog tags and accepting payments for property taxes and public utilities.
