In 2008, the Chatham-Kent Public Library hired consultants to conduct a review of the Chatham-Kent Public Library system. There were three major areas that were reviewed and upon which recommendations were made. They were Facilities, Library Service, and Management and Governance. From this review a Library Master Plan and Community Needs Assessment was developed.
The primary goal of conducting a Library Master Plan and a Community Needs Assessment was to develop priorities and strategies for the next three to five years, including a consistent approach to resolving outstanding issues and to provide a clear direction for the future of the Chatham-Kent Public Library.
dmA Planning and Management Services has provided a comprehensive review of Library Services at the Chatham-Kent Public Library. This review identified significant gaps in collections, facilities, staffing, governance, training, and resource allocations. Recommendations were made, and on December 16, 2008, the Chatham-Kent Library Board accepted, in principle, a Library Master Plan and Community Needs Assessment . On January 12, 2009 the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council also accepted in principle, the final document. This final document includes 61 recommendations based on the three main Strategies of Facilities, Programs and Services and Management and Governance.
