Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires Boat Dock Attendants in Chatham and Wallaceburg. At the Chatham Boat Docks, there are two full-time positions (working 35 hours per week); at the Wallaceburg Boat Docks, there is one full-time position (working 35 hours per week) there will also be one part-time position (hours to be determined) will float between both Wallaceburg and Chatham Docks. These positions report to Facility Supervisors.
Work Term:
· Weekend hours only from Friday, May 22, for a period up to Friday, June 25, 2010
· Weekly hours (including evenings and weekends) will begin Monday, June 28, for a period up to Sunday, September 5, 2010
Responsibilities:
· Maintaining a high level of customer service to boaters, offering tourist advice on area attractions, services, and special events
· Maintaining an estheticaly pleasing boat dock area, maintaining the promenade, cleaning washroom and showers, including weeding, painting, collection of garbage and other maintenance duties
· Answering questions about events, attractions, and services; preparing and distributing visitor information packages and collecting statistics on boaters
· Communicating with boaters via VHF radio; boater assistance with docking; boater registration; collecting appropriate dockage fees
· Maintaining the dock office; completing daily checklist of duties; balancing and depositing registration revenues
· Operating of pump-out, collecting pump-out fees, balancing and depositing pump-out revenues
· Various other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
· Ideal candidates would possess an interest in pursuing a career in marketing and tourism
· Previous working experience in marketing and/or tourism an asset
· Excellent communication and public relations skill
· Self-motivated and ability to work independently
· First Aid, CPR and swimming certification would be an asset
· Previous experience at a marina would be an asset
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent
Compensation:
This summer student position will pay an hourly wage of $11.00 to $12.50 per hour, (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
