Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires one Summer Program Assistant for a seasonal summer student position at the Chatham-Kent Museum. This position will run for 6 weeks, beginning July 5, 2010, for a period up to August 13, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Under the supervision of the Chatham-Kent Museum Education Coordinator, the student will provide a historically based summer program for children aged 5 to 10 years
· Responsible for the safety and welfare of the children left in their care
· Provide mini history lessons based on a weekly theme each day, and instruct the children in related crafts and activities
· Set up and clean up of days programs as according to the education co-ordinator’s instructions
Qualifications:
· To be eligible for this summer student position, students must have attended a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring of 2010, and/or attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2010
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to candidates with a background in history and teaching/instructional experience
· Museum experience would be an asset
· Candidates should also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· First aid would be an asset
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
Compensation:
This summer student position will pay an hourly wage of $10.25 (based on grade 1 of the 2010 student compensation plan), for approximately 35 hours per week, plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of May 7, 2010.
