Job Description:
Recreation Facilities currently have three summer student Park Maintenance positions available for the summer of 2010. One position is available in Ridgetown and two positions are available at Clearville Park. These positions are for approximately 35 hours per week; positions will begin the end of April, for a period up to September 5, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Assist with maintenance of ball diamonds, soccer pitches, skateboard parks and other sport related facilities.
· Assist with park cleanup and garbage control in parks
· Painting playground equipment, waste containers, park benches, park buildings
· Assist in maintaining pathways, parking lots and bridges that are associated with parks
· Assist in preparations for community special events
· Assist in the opening and ongoing maintenance of the outdoor swimming pools
· Assist park users and tourists in the parks
· Notify Recreation Facilities Supervisor immediately of vandalism, maintenance and/or public concerns
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
· Because of the responsibilities required of this position, preference will be given to those grade 12 or above
· Preference will be given to those students that are pursuing a career in parks, recreation or sports management
· Have a working knowledge of small equipment
· Enjoy working outdoors and with the public
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, students should have physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds (22.73 kg), as well as working with landscaping material, refuse, etc.
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G or G2) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent
Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place during the last two weeks in March.
Compensation:
These summer student positions have an hourly wage range of $10.25 to $11.00, (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
