Job Description:
The CAO & Mayor’s office has a summer student opening for an Office Assistant. This summer student position would work approximately 35 hours per week. This position will be for a period from May 10, 2010, for period up to August 27, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Assisting in the co-ordination and organization of meetings and activities in the Mayor and CAO’s offices
· Arranging for events, such as flag-raisings, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, preparing certificates of recognition
· Logging of daily mail, internet research, typing correspondence, operating a postage machine, fax, copier and scanning equipment and other general clerical duties
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act6; and
· Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations This position will provide experience for someone with interest in the Political Sciences area
· The student must be a self-starter, able to complete tasks given in a timely, efficient and thorough manner
· Possess exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task
· Able to work independently, as well as participate as part of a team
· The student must have excellent communication skills, oral and written, good people skills on the telephone and in person, be punctual, dress appropriately for the office and be flexible to pitch in whenever necessary
· Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Internet Research
Interviews are tentatively scheduled between the end of March and middle of April.
Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
