Job Description:

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires one or more Clerical Assistant/Case Aids in the Ontario Works Division at the Centre for Community Services in Chatham.  This position would work a total of 35 hours per week, from approximately May 17, 2010, for a period up to August 27, 2010. 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Provide front counter/telephone reception duties to assist Ontario Works recipients, second floor offices, as well as our Employment Resource Centres

·         Provide clerical assistance to various Ontario Works staff

·         Complete special projects in partnership with community agencies and other municipal departments

·         Assist with special projects to support Ontario Works operations.

·         Assist with daily and monthly cheque production.

 

Qualifications:

·         This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester

o    Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

o    Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester

o    Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

o    Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

·         Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to those students currently enrolled in a post-secondary university school program, specifically Social Work, Psychology or Sociology

·         Advanced computer skills

·         Experience in customer service and working with the public

·         Experience in crisis intervention would be an asset

·         Proven ability to demonstrate excellent attention to detail

·         Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment

·         Because this position may be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred

 

Interviews will take place during the last two weeks of March 2010.

 

Compensation:

This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on the 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
