Job Description:
Parks, Cemeteries & Horticulture has a summer student opening for a Marketing/Administrative Assistant student in the Communities & Bloom (CiB) area. This position is located in the community of Chatham. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. This summer student position would work approximately 35 hours per week. This position will be for a period from May 3, 2010, for period up to September 3, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Gathering and accurately documenting a large volume of community initiatives for the purpose of being judged in the National CiB competition
· Assisting with various clerical and administrative tasks
· Marketing, promoting, researching and organizing Municipal-wide CiB efforts and events
Qualifications:
· To be eligible for this summer student position, students must have attended a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring of 2010, and/or attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2010
· An ideal candidate would be familiar with Chatham-Kent’s many smaller communities
· Possesses exceptional verbal and written communication skills and enjoy working with a wide range of people
· Possesses a keen interest in several of the eight categories of competition: tidiness, landscaped areas, turf areas, heritage conservation, urban forestry, floral arrangements, environmental effort, and community involvement
· Proficient in Microsoft office products
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G or G2) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent
· Because this position may be required to travel, a reliable motor vehicle is an asset
Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place between March 15 and April 15, 2010.
Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
