Job Description:
Human Resources & Organizational Development (HROD) division has a summer student opening for an HR Assistant. This summer student position would work approximately 35 hours per week. This position will be for a period from the end of April, for period up to September 3, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Assisting in all the areas of the Human Resources department, including Administration, Compensation & Benefits, Labour Relations, Occupational Safety, Payroll, Recruitment, Learning & Development
· This position will mainly assist the Recruitment Officer with various recruitment projects during the summer
· Assistance in other HROD areas may include: processing incoming and outgoing mail, records management (updating and maintaining), assembling training packages, assisting with the collection of information, cross referencing, creating databases, data entry, working with HR software programs, tracking new student health & safety training, communicating requests and deadlines, liaising with staff of all levels within the municipality
· Work sites will be at the Civic Centre, 315 King Street West, and the Park Avenue Business Centre, 25 Creek Road
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act6; and
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to post-secondary students enrolled in a Human Resources program
· Experience in data entry and records management required
· Previous office administrative and customer service experience an asset
· Able to work independently, as well as participate as part of a team
· Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel (testing will be part of the interview); experience using Microsoft Outlook would be an asset
· Have access to transportation between the Civic Centre and Park Avenue Business Centre
Interviews are tentatively scheduled between the end of March and middle of April.
Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
