Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Engineering & Transportation division has an opening for an Engineering & Transportation Student from May 3, 2010 for a period up to August 21, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· The Engineering Student will assist the department's technical staff with varying types of engineering related assignments, consisting of field surveying, AutoCAD work completing design drawings, estimating small projects, evaluating and updating infrastructure needs databases for sidewalks, railways, bridges, culverts and road and field inspections of projects under the supervision of field staff.
· The Transportation Student will assist the department’s technical staff with varying types of traffic related assignments, consisting of field surveying, AutoCAD work completing exhibit drawings, parking lot layouts, completing and updating traffic counts, inputting data into traffic collision system software and updating inventory of pavement markings and traffic signal infrastructure
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to students enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering Program.
· Excellent computer skills; experience in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, ESRI ArcView and Microsoft Office an asset
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent

Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage of $12.50 to $14.50 (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
