Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires a Children’s Services Assistant in the Children’s Services Division at the Centre for Community Services in Chatham. This position would work a total of 35 per week, from approximately May 10, 2010, for a period up to August 27, 2010.
Responsibilities:
· Provide telephone reception and interact with clients requesting information and services offered through the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Children’s Services (eg. A.L.L. for Kids program, Childcare Subsidy)
· Retrieve and enter data regarding clients into the following computer programs: SDMT, OCCMS and excel
· Schedule Childcare Subsidy appointments, maintain files including creating and purging files.
· Provide clerical support to A.L.L. for Kids Coordinator, Children's Services caseworkers, Financial Analyst and Director, Children’s Services
· Assist with special projects to support Children’s Services operations
· Assist with cheque production.
Qualifications:
· This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to those students currently enrolled in a post-secondary university school program, specifically Child Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or Sociology
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral by telephone and written), strong customer service skills and experience working with the public
· Ability to learn new tasks quickly
· Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment

Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on the 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
