Job Description:

Building, Enforcement & Licensing division has a summer student opening for a Building Assistant.  This summer student position would work approximately 35 hours per week.  This position will be for a period from May 10, 2010, for period up to August 27, 2010.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Provide customer and clerical support to Building Services

·         File property files and building drawings

·         Assist in coverage of office counter during vacations, lunch hours, etc.

 

Qualifications:

·         This summer student position is subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires the summer student to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester

o    Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

o    Attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester

o    Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act6; and

o    Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

·         Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, good people skills on the telephone and in person

·         Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel

·         Experience working in an office environment

·         Ability to work independently, as well as participate as part of a team

·         Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G or G2) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent

 

Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of March 22, 2010.

 

Compensation:

This summer student position has an hourly wage range of $11.00 to $12.50 (based on 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the Employment Standards Act.
