Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Recreation Programs is currently seeking students for Aquatic Supervisors for the summer of 2010. Reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator, this position runs for a period up to 12 weeks, working up to approximately 42.5 hours per week, requiring some evenings and weekends.
Locations of pools where positions may be available:
Chatham, Dresden, Thamesville, Tilbury, Ridgetown
Responsibilities:
· Assist in facilitating the pre-season training for all aquatic staff
· Participate and oversee the delivery and operation of programs and services
· Enforce pool rules consistently, tactfully and promptly
· Follow the policies and procedures in the Aquatic Easy Reference Guide
· Handle concerns and maintain a positive image with the public
· Manage and maintain a team environment with staff, providing education, leadership
· Delivery of weekly staff training and ongoing staff evaluation
· Operation and upkeep of the pool facility
· Schedule, supervise and implement aquatic programs
· Maintain an accurate daily pool log and incident reports, deposits, program participation, budget and evaluation records
· Maintain qualifications and seek additional training opportunities
· Assist in the completion the Final Report and Budget
Qualifications:
· For positions that are subject to receiving student subsidy funding; the funding requires summer students to be attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring 2010 semester, and returning to a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall 2010 semester
· For positions not receiving student subsidy funding, to be eligible students must have attended a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the spring of 2010, and/or attending a secondary or post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2010
· Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to those students in their final year of high school or enrolled in post-secondary education, and possess one to two years experience at a pool setting
· Current certification required in:
o NLS (National Lifeguard Service)
o Lifesaving Society Instructors
o Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors
o Standard First Aid/CPR
o HIGH FIVE PHCD
· Additional aquatic certifications an asset:
o CALA (Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance Inc.) (visit www.calainc.org)
o WaterArt (WaterART Fitness International) (visit www.waterart.org)
o LSSC Examiner
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because this position may be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred

Compensation:
This summer student position has an hourly wage rate of $14.50 to $16.50 (based on the 2010 student compensation plan), plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the employment standards act.
