Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently accepting applications for their External Job Registry for seasonal Snow Plough Operators. These positions would be for a period up to March 31, 2011.
Applications will be accepted starting July 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010 for future seasonal Snow Plough Operator positions. Please only apply once during this period. Positions may be located at any of the following garages:
Chatham Township Garage, Dover Garage, Kent Centre Garage, PABC Garage (Chatham), Raleigh Garage, Ridgetown Garage, Thamesville Garage, Tilbury East Garage, Wallaceburg Garage
Responsibilities may include:
· Winter control, operating snow ploughs or trucks fitted with plough blades to remove snow from streets, highways, parking lots and similar areas
· Clean and maintain streets, roads and public grounds of the municipality and other areas, working as a member of a crew
· Assist Equipment Operators to secure attachments to equipment or trucks
Qualifications:
· Possess a Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate)
· Position requires the candidate to be on a 24 hour standby basis, to carry a pager, and to be able to respond within one hour to emergencies
· Due to the responsibilities of this position, the candidate must be physically fit and reliable
· Experience operating a 5 cubic yard loader, combination snowplow and spreader unit is required
· Experience working with winter sand/salt an asset
· Experience in road maintenance operations, an asset
· Candidate must be able to obtain working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (a minimum of class D with Z endorsement) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent
Compensation:
This position has an hourly rate of $17.97 (2010 rates), as per C.U.P.E. Local 12.1 collective agreement.
