Job Information:
The department of Operational Support Branch of the Chatham-Kent Police Service has an opening for a part-time Emergency Communications Operator (ECO). This position reports to the Emergency Communications Supervisor & Manager.
Responsibilities:
· Answers 911, Police, Fire and non-emergency calls for service.
· Efficiently collects necessary information from caller to determine the nature and urgency of response in a professional manner to be dispatched in accordance with policies.
· Direct entry of information into a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system relative to incident as required.
· Maintenance of records and computer data as required.
· Communication functions with police and fire units, personnel as required.
· Meet and Maintain Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Standards in performance as job requirement
Qualifications:
· Minimum two year college diploma, dispatch certification or equivalent
· Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and listening
· Clear authoritative voice over telephone and radio
· Well-developed keyboard skills minimum 50 words per minute
· Flexibility – ability to work various hours and shifts on short notice
· Must be available to work a minimum of 24 hours per month
· Well-developed Microsoft Office application knowledge
· Self-motivated
· Ability to react positively and be effective with stressful situations/environment
· Ability to exercise good judgement within framework of policies and procedures
· Interpersonal skills
· Good moral character
· Multi-tasking abilities
· Ability to set priorities
· Ability to work as a team member
· Ability to work under minimum supervision
· Good knowledge of Municipal geography
· Attendance reliability
Beneficial:
· Previous communicator experience/training
· RMS/Niche knowledge
· Able to work various hours during the week and weekend, and take call-in shifts
· Valid First Aid and CPR certificates
Hours of Work:
· Rotating/flexible shifts may include days, nights, holidays, weekends, lunch/dinner break coverage, and call-in shift coverage
· Communication Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
· Work hours not guaranteed, scheduling as needed
Successful candidate:
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check
· Required to successfully complete an internal testing process
· Required to provide valid certificate indicating “normal” hearing at own expense
· Successful candidates will be required to meet and maintain Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services for Police as Communicator, as a condition of employment
Compensation:
This part-time position has an hourly wage rate of $27.88, plus 15% in lieu of benefits, following the successful completion of a probationary period.
