Job Description:

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently accepting applications for their External Job Registry for future part-time casual and call-in Aquatic positions for Recreation Programs.

 

Applications will be accepted starting July 1, 2010, for a period up to 4:30 p.m., December 31, 2010, and will be kept on file for part-time casual or call-in positions with Recreation Programs during this period.  Please only apply once during this period.

 

Job Information for Part-time Lifeguards:

Part-time positions working daytime, evenings, and weekends as required. Duties will be assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator. Applicants must be available on short notice to work days, evenings and weekends as required; for up to 24 hours per week.  Positions are located at the Gable Rees Rotary Pool and the Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Perform as accident preventers, rescuers, public relations officers and administrators

·         Provide a supportive customer service role, provide personal attention and care to all community users

·         Undertake safe rescues, perform high level of First Aid, follow all set emergency procedures, and complete any required documentation

·         Promote and implement policies and procedures, rules and regulations that govern the conduct of persons using the facilities

·         Be in proper uniform at all times when on duty

·         Perform administrative duties: pool log, attendance, accident/incident reports

·         Report known or potential hazards, maintenance concerns, and unsafe conditions immediately to the Aquatic Coordinator

·         Ensure all lifesaving equipment is maintained, available and in proper working order to implement trained rescue procedures

·         Maintain required certifications

·         Instruction of lessons to follow LSSC guidelines while  implementing safe, creative swim instruction for all ages

·         Responsible for the instruction of aqua fitness groups

 

Qualifications:

·         Because of the responsibilities of this position, the candidate must be at least 16 years of age

·         Previous Lifeguard/Aquatic experience working at a public pool or other environment an asset (i.e. beach lifeguard, private pool lifeguard, camp lifeguard, etc.)

·         Current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate required

·         Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor [WSI] certificate required

·         Current Red LSSC LifeSaving award certificate required

·         CALA certification (Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance Inc.) (www.calainc.org) an asset

·         WaterART certification (WaterART Fitness International) (www.waterart.org) an asset

·         LSSC Examiner Status would be an asset

·         Previous aquatic leadership/supervision experience an asset

·         Experience in dealing/working with community user demographics (preschool, youth, adult, senior) an asset

·         Knowledge of and experience with injury prevention practices, as well as health and safety practices

·         Good communication and public relation skills, as well as observation skills and scanning techniques

·         Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish a Police Information Search (criminal reference check) before commencement of employment

Compensation:

The compensation for this position is an hourly wage of $14.01 to $15.23 (2010 rates based grade 3 B of the 2010 part time non-union compensation plan), plus vacation benefits and statutory holidays as per the Employment Standards Act.
