Job Information:

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission is currently accepting applications for their 2010 External Job Registry for future permanent and temporary full-time Operators for Water & Wastewater Services, working throughout Chatham-Kent.

 

Career Profiles and resumes will be received starting May 20, 2010, for a period up to 4:30 p.m. on December 31, 2010.  Applications will be kept on file until December 31, 2010.  Please only apply once during this period, unless you have updated your courses; please note the updates in a new Career Profile and resume.

 

Operators Job Description:

·         Carrying out regular inspections of the plant and systems, operating and maintaining process control equipment in order to ensure that the plants are operating in accordance with standards established by the Ministry of Environment

·         Carrying out regular inspections of Collection and Distribution systems, pump stations and booster stations

·         Assisting in water main operations and maintenance.

·         Carrying out sampling and routine laboratory tests as required

·         Providing assistance to Maintenance personnel in day to day equipment up-keep

·         Position requires operational assistance at the Wheatley Water and Wastewater Facilities

·         Maintaining grounds and buildings

·         On call on rotating basis with a 30 minute response time, and working regularly schedule weekends

 

Qualifications:

·         Possess an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma, but a post secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline is an asset

·         Ministry of the Environment Operator in Training (OIT) Certification in Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment required

·         Mechanical and/or electrical experience required

·         Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent

 

Note:  Because of the responsibilities of this position, Ministry of Environment (MOE) and the CEP Local 2003 collective agreement requires on-call personnel be able to respond within 30 minutes; preference will be given to those candidates who currently live within 30 minutes, or are willing to relocate within a 30 minute radius, of the plant where a position may become available.

 

Compensation:

The above positions will be paid an hourly rate as per the CEP (Communications, Energy and Paperworkers) Union collective agreement.
