Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires three temporary full-time Ontario Works Caseworkers, at the Chatham-Kent Centre for Community Services in Chatham. These positions are for a period up to one year.
Responsibilities:
· Delivering a complex social assistance program for Ontario Works participants, assisting individuals to achieve self-reliance and independent from the social assistance system
· Providing crisis intervention and appropriate community referrals
· Providing individual and group counselling, participant assessment, financial eligibility determination, effective case planning, liaison with community partners, extensive case investigation and documentation, and efficiently and effectively develop optimum participant potential
· Using sound judgement and discretion to ensure participants receiving effective service within a complex legislative and policy environment that incorporates the unique circumstances of each individual participant
· Supporting all Ontario Works team members in achieving departmental objectives while continually seeking new methods and procedures to increase personal and organizational efficiency and effectiveness
Qualifications:
· Possess a University Degree in Social Sciences or Social Work field from a recognized university, with two to four years related training and experience
· Proven ability to assess participant employability as it relates to general life skills, motivation and attitudes
· Able to interpret and accurately apply complex legislation; maintain up to date knowledge of legislative changes as required
· Proficient in using computers, Microsoft Office programs, and the ability to learn new software programs
· Experience in an employment assistance program for social assistance clients would be an asset
· Experience providing individual and/or group counselling would be an asset
· Knowledge of related Provincial and Federal income support programs would be an asset
· Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with internal staff, community agencies and the public would be an asset
· Proven excellent communication, analytical, problem solving and time management skills are essential
· Proven file documentation skills are essential
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is required
Compensation:
These temporary full-time positions have an hourly wage rate of $31.63 to $35.76 (based on grade 8 of the 2010 non-union compensation plan), plus 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes health & dental benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay.
