Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Legal Services division requires a permanent full-time Manager of Insurance and Risk Management. The Manager of Insurance and Risk Management is responsible for establishing and implementing the short and long-range organizational objectives, policies and procedures for the Risk Management and Insurance Program including coordination of general insurance contract specifications and policy requirements.

· Administration of the Municipality’s self-insurance program including the review, investigation, analysis and denial or settlement of claims, payment of deductibles and monitoring, analysis and reporting of claims activity and costs on a regular basis
· Responsible for management of all litigation, including all insurance matters for the municipality.
· Prepare court and related documents for litigation files and represent the Municipality in insurance litigation matters as required.
· Actively promote effective risk management “best practices” within the municipality regarding insurance issues, identify areas of risk and develop strategies, including conducting risk management awareness and educational programs.

· The preferred candidate will be a Lawyer eligible to practice law in Ontario, with a minimum of 2 years experience in a legal environment, primarily in insurance and municipal liability law, OR an insurance professional with a Certificate of Risk Management (CRM) designation and a Chartered Insurance Professionals (CIP) or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation
· Experience with court procedures in civil and POA courts
· Experience with managing insurance and other litigation legal files
· Experience in managing risk management programs.
· Experience in court appearances at Small Claims Court (SCC) and Provincial Offences Court (POC) preferred
