Job Description:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requires a permanent full-time Facilities Supervisor for the Ridgetown/Thamesville district and a permanent full-time Facilities Supervisor for the Blenheim district, for Recreation Facilities of the Community Services Division.
Responsibilities:
· Ridgetown/Thamesville: coordinate, oversee and implement maintenance/repairs of the Ridgetown Arena, Ridgetown and Thamesville Pools, parks, sports fields, community halls, beaches, as well as the Clearville Park Campground
· Blenheim: coordinate, oversee and implement maintenance/repairs of the Blenheim Arena, indoor pool, parks, sports fields, community halls, beaches
· Develop and manage district business plans and operational budgets
· Coordinate schedules, provide facilitation, leadership and motivation to recreational facilities staff
· Ensuring facilities are utilized and mechanically and aesthetically maintained
· Undertake and manage lifecycle and operating budget projects
· Communicate and work with contractors (i.e. grass, snow removal, etc.)
· Ensuring that due diligence is carried out in all areas of risk management and safety training
· Working co-operatively with user groups to ensure that the Division is providing the necessary guidance and support, ensuring that facility use is maximized by the user groups
· Establishing effective working relationships and harmonious labour relations with unionized staff
· Prepare reports for and/or present to Council, and/or public/user meetings
· Prepare and administer service contracts, purchase supplies, equipment and services
· Ensure a high standard of customer service
· Investigate, analyze and resolve operational issues
· Ensure a safe environment for staff and customers
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring to the Chatham-Kent Recreation Facilities department:
· Post secondary education in a field related to Parks and Recreation Facility Management, with four to six years related experience
· Minimum 5 years experience managing operations of a seasonal and transient campground (Ridgetown/Thamesville area only)
· Minimum of 5 years proven experience in the area of arenas, parks, community centres, pools along with knowledge and experience relating to the maintenance/development of sport fields and parkland
· Recreation Facilities Certifications such as Class ‘B’ Refrigeration, Pool Operators Certificate, Certified Ice Technician etc.
· Strong management/organizational ability with above average communication and public relation skills, written and oral
· Previous experience as a Manager/Supervisor within a union and non-union work environment would be preferred
· Experience in interpretation of collective agreements
· Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of software including MS Word, Excel, etc.
· Experience with presentations and reports to Council
· Prior experience within a Municipal environment
· Knowledge of municipal policies, procedures and bylaws and applicable provincial, federal legislations and regulations
· Good understanding of ice resurfacer operation and repair, H.V.A.C. operation and maintenance, mechanical equipment, and facility maintenance
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
· Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent
Compensation
This permanent full-time position has an annual salary range of $63,289 to $71,565 (2010 rates based on grade 9 of our 2009 non-union full-time compensation plan), plus benefits following the successful completion of a 90 day probationary period.
