Job Posting:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Circulation Librarian (35 hours per week) reporting to the Coordinator – Public Services. This position involves day, evening and weekend shifts. This position is located at the Chatham Library but serves all Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) locations. The Circulation Services Librarian is responsible for the effective organization and delivery of circulation services for the Chatham Library, including direct supervision of the circulation staff at the Chatham Library. This position is a resource for all aspects of the circulation services, as well as responsible for specific areas of collection development in cooperation with the Collections Librarian; is responsible for scheduling all Chatham Library staff; is responsible for providing reference and reader’s advisory services at the Chatham reference service desk. This position is for a period up to October 2, 2010, to cover a leave.
Responsibilities:

Provide circulation, reference and reader’s advisory service at an advanced level to a diverse set of clients (internal and external)

Provide leadership for staff at the Chatham Library and branches in all aspects of circulation
-
Coordinate and schedule staff at the Chatham Library
-
Advise, guide and train staff in circulation and reference services and contributes to their evaluation
-
Advise, guide and train Chatham Pages and contributes to their evaluation
-
Select audiovisual, multilingual and other collection formats for the CKPL system
-
Determine the need for , develop, initiate and evaluate Local History programs designed to promote the service
-
Co-ordinate and conduct outreach programs to promote the Local History collection and library services
-
Assist with the development of web content for library’s website including links to appropriate sites to assist with information delivery and reference services

Prepare statistical and other reports on circulation, collections and reference activities
-
Maintain an effective public relations program, speaking to community groups, requesting donations, and coordinating publicity and participation in community events
Qualifications:
-
Master of Library Science degree or its equivalent from an ALA accredited university is required
-
Two to four years experience in a public library preferred
-
Demonstrated experience in providing reference and reader’s advisory services in a public library required
-
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks, projects and deadlines
-
Ability to express self to others in a way which conveys information accurately and consistently both written and verbal
-
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills by exhibiting courtesy, sensitivity and responsiveness when interacting with both internal and external clients
-
Possess strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills
-
Ability to build teams and manage effectively and efficiently
-
Ability to work independently, to be self-directed and proactive
-
Ability to coordinate with multiple people

Ability to troubleshoot computer hardware and software
-
Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, library databases, software applications and integrated library systems (SirsiDynix Horizon) required

Physical stamina, flexibility, good physical health, and the ability to lift 25-35 pounds (11.34-15.876 kilograms) are a necessity

Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment

Because this position may be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred
Compensation:
This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage range of $30.48 to $34.44 (2010 rates), plus 15% in lieu of benefits following the successful completion of a 90 day probationary period, as per C.U.P.E. Local 12.2 collective agreement.
