Job Information:
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently accepting applications for their External Job Registry for future casual call-in RN positions at Riverview Gardens.
Career Profiles and resumes will be accepted starting July 1, 2010, for a period up to 4:30 p.m. on December 31, 2010, and will be kept on file for future casual call-in RN positions which may become available during this period. Please only apply once during this period.
Responsibilities:
· Ensuring that a high standard of care is combined with an understanding of the needs of people with long term disabilities and particularly those disabilities associated with aging
· Providing nursing care in accordance with the administrative policies, medical director’s orders, established standards and recognized nursing principles; this care is provided on a shift basis as scheduled in order to ensure that residents of the Home have nursing care 24 hours per day, seven days per week
· Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician or according to established policies and protocols
· Completes an individualized plan of care for each resident. Assesses resident's health status on an ongoing basis and institutes appropriate care measures
· Coordinates skin and wound care programs according to MOH Long Term Care standards and Services for Seniors best practice policies and procedures
· Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
· May supervise licensed practical nurses and other nursing staff
· Monitor, assess, address, document and report symptoms and changes in residents' conditions
· Operate or monitor medical apparatus or equipment
· Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety.
Qualifications:
· A Registered Nurse with current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
· Completion of a post-diploma geriatric program is desired
· Possess current Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR certifications
· Must have previous general nursing experience
· Additional experience in geriatric, rehabilitation or psychiatric nursing preferred
· Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and other related professional associations
· Previous experience in a setting for care of the elderly would be an asset
· Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy
· Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving and working knowledge of computers
· Able to accept on short notice call-in hours for days, afternoons, and weekends, which may include four hour shifts
· Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish a Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
Compensation:
This casual call-in position has an hourly wage range of $26.80 to $38.74 (2008 rates), plus 15% in lieu of benefits and 6% vacation pay, as per the O.N.A. collective agreement.
