Personal Care Givers (PCG) (Casual call-in)

Job Information:

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently accepting applications for their External Job Registry for future casual call-in PCG positions at Riverview Gardens. 

 

Career Profiles and resumes will be accepted starting July 1, 2010, for a period up to 4:30 p.m. on December 31, 2010, and will be kept on file for future casual call-in PCG positions which may become available during this period.  Please only apply once during this period.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Providing personal care required to support the Care Plan for the residents, under the direction of the Nurse Manager

·         Playing an integral role in planning and implementing the care of residents under their care

·         Assist with all activities of daily living including skin care, oral care, hair care, bathing, toileting, dressing, mobility, feeding and recreational activities

·         Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act

·         Maintain a safe, clean and orderly environment for residents

·         Observe and report on residents health and living conditions

·         Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety

·         Provide for the comfort, safety and well-being of residents

·         Provide informal counselling, as needed

·         Recognize and report changes in a resident’s behaviour/condition

·         Respect for resident confidentiality and discretion at all times

·         Sort and bag all soiled linen, make and change beds, clean and tidy resident rooms

·         Support resident’s independence regarding medications

 

Qualifications:

·         Posses a secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate)

·         Graduated from a Health Care Aide, Developmental Service Worker or Personal Support Worker program

·         Possess current Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR certifications

·         Experience working as a Health Care Aide, Developmental Service Worker or Personal Support Worker an asset

·         Previous experience in a setting for care of the elderly would be an asset

·         Current knowledge of and training in mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques for residents

·         Proficient in transfers (bed, wheelchair, etc.), bathing, feeding and other personal care duties

·         Possess computer keyboarding skills

·         Able to accept on short notice call-in hours for days, afternoons, and weekends, which may include four hour shifts

·         Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish a Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment

 

Compensation:

This casual call-in position has an hourly wage range of hourly wage range of $17.16 to $22.39 (2008 rates), plus 15% in lieu of benefits following the successful completion of a probationary period and 4% vacation pay, as per the C.A.W. collective agreement
