ERC Services for Persons with Disablilities

The Chatham-Kent Employment Resource Centres provide services to all individuals seeking employment or career changes. Our centres are fully accessible. The following outlines other service providers for people with disabilities.

 

ONTARIO DISABILITY SUPPORT PROGRAM (ODSP)

Employment Supports


The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Employment Supports recognize that people with disabilities can work and are willing to work. ODSP Employment Supports are there to help you find and prepare you for employment; even if you never worked before, have been out of work for some time, or are enrolled in school.


Eligibility:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Be a resident of Ontario
  • Have a disability that is expected to last a year or more, and your disability makes it hard for you to find or keep a job.

Also, you do not have to be receiving ODSP Income Support to be
 eligible for Employment Supports


Some supports that may be available include:

 

  • Job coaching
  • Tools and equipment
  • Specialized computer training
  • Other items you may need for work
  • On the job training
  • Adaptive software and mobility devices
  • Interpreter / intervener services
  • Transportation assistance
  • Assistive devices and training
  • Special clothing

COMMUNITY LIVING CHATHAM
& COMMUNITY LIVING WALLACEBURG

Employment Services works in partnership with businesses to develop paying jobs and provide on the job training and support for dedicated and reliable candidates.

 

Eligibility:


Individuals are able to fill out an application for ODSP with one of their staff. Once the application is filled out and sent to ODSP, staff can continue with assisting individual with employment services.
**Therefore individual needs to still fill out ODSP ES (Employment Support) application before accessing their services** (Applications on site)

 

Supports available:

  • Abilities and special needs are examined

  • Pre-employment training is provided

  • Assistance with job searches/interviews and job coaching

  • Help to learn to do the job independently with follow-up maintenance supports

  • Paid positions and volunteer opportunities are available

GOODWILL EMPLOYMENT ACTION CENTRE

Employment counselling services are available at no cost to individuals who are unemployed and eligible to work in Canada.

 

Eligibility:


Individuals that are in receipt of employment insurance.
**Individuals need to fill out ODSP Employment Support Application. (Applications are not on site).**

CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION

Employment Services provides training, supports and educational groups in life skills, computers and interpersonal skills.

 

Eligibility:


Aged sixteen and over experiencing a severe and persistent mental illness who are currently residents on the
Municipality of Chatham-Kent or whose family or origin is in Chatham-Kent.


All community mental health services are referred to the ACCESS COMMITTEE of Chatham-Kent. This committee represents the three community based mental health care providers:
