What is in motion
In motion is a health promotion strategy.  The goal is to have all the citizens of Chatham-Kent include regular physical activity into their daily lives.

Put your body "in motion" - every day
A small bit of physical activity every day will mean a healthier and longer life for you.  Being "in motion" will mean you will have better health, more energy...you'll feel stronger, less stressed and feel more relaxed.

Do it for life
It's easy to include activity in your life.  Depending on what level of physical activity you feel comfortable with, choose one of the following ways to be "in motion":

Go Light - Enjoy 'light effort' activity such as curling, golfing, canoeing, walking, mowing a lawn or bowling for 60 minutes, seven days a week.

Be Moderate - Enjoy 'moderate effort' activity such as brisk walking, swimming, dancing, raking leaves or bicycling on level ground for 30 or 60 minutes, four to six days a week.

Get Vigorous -  Enjoy 'vigorous effort' activities such as aerobics, jogging, cross-country skiing, squash/racquet ball, fast swimming, chopping wood or bicycling on hills, for 20 to 30 minutes, four days a week.

It's easy to be active!
Even small amounts throughout the day can add up to what you need to be "in motion".  Try taking 10-minute activity snacks of moderate activity three times a day to total up your 30 minutes for the day! Remember, the more you do the better it is for you!

Leaders "in motion"
In motion
in Southwest Ontario is a tri county initiative.  The tri county area includes Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, Lambton County and Windsor Essex.  The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit declared in motion a priority in its planning to improve health through health promotion and illness prevention.

Partnerships build strength
A unique mix of partners makes in motion strong.  Local partners include:  Ministry of Health Promotion - Active 2010, South West Area Recreation Guild (SWARG) Healthy Living Chatham - Kent, Chatham-Kent  Recreation, Chatham - Kent Public Health Unit, Conseil Scolaire des District des Ecoles Catholiques do Sud-Quest, YMCA , Ontario Works, TVCOGEOCO and Blackburn Radio, CFCO, CKSY, and CKUE The Rock.
