Thamesville is located in the eastern part of Chatham-Kent. The community is on the main CNR Rail Line that traverses Southwestern Ontario and is also located on Highway 21, which provides direct 10-minute access to Highway 401.
The largest employer is Metaldyne Powertrain/NVH (150 employees), a Tier One supplier making transmission dampers for the major automotive assemblers.
Thamesville has two unique places in history. It was the birthplace of Canadian author Robertson Davies (Davies based his Deptford Trilogy on life in Thamesville). Thamesville is also the site of the Battle of the Thames which took place during the War of 1812. A monument to famed Shawnee Chief Tecumseh is located on the site of the battle.

The recreational facilities in Thamesville include a skateboard park, athletic fields, playgrounds and an outdoor swimming pool.
