TD Summer Reading Club 2017

Die Cut Days
Date: Saturdays, July 22, August 5, August 19, September 2
Time: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Die cut machines punch themed shapes for classrooms, paper crafts, journals, and more! Bring your own paper or cardstock. Laminating service available.

Totally Terrific Tuesdays
Date: every Tuesday
Time: 6:00 pm

Drop into the children's room for a story and activity that will make your Tuesday Totally Terrific!  

Bad Art Night - Canada 150+ Edition
Date: Tuesday, July 18 and Thursday, August 17
Time: 6:30 pm

Leave your talent and good taste at home and join us at the Chatham Branch as we make some really ugly art inspired by our love of Canada. Don’t know how to paint? Not good at drawing? Just want something to do with your friends? This is the event for you! We’ll provide the supplies, you provide the badness. Leave your inner critic at home and have fun creating something terrible. Then you can show off your creation in our Bad Art Gallery Show for your chance to win our Trophy of Terribleness! This is the perfect opportunity for you to win an art competition even if you lack artistic talent. Registration required. Adults only, 13+.

Wednesday, July 5 10:00 am to 11:00 am OR 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Kindred Spirits! Have you been watching the new Anne series Sunday nights on CBC? The series is based on Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Lucy was always jotting things down and these often became ideas for stories! Thursday, August 10 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm Totem Poles! Drop in to help create CKPL's very own totem poles! Learn about the rich history and intricate designs of the ancient totem poles of Canada and leave your own touch on ours as we work together to design totem poles. All ages

Visit us Thursday afternoons this summer for an afternoon of board game fun. Relax, stay cool and have fun! Free program. No registration required. Available games include Pictionary, Yahtzee, What’s Yours Like?, Cranium Canadian Edition, Sorry, Balderdash, Catan Family Edition and Backgammon.

Loans You Don't Want

This workshop will be led by Tammy Bettencourt and Kelcey Kucharski, who combined have over 50 years of financial services industry experience. Registration is not required.

Participants of this fun workshop will learn:

  • How to calculate the real cost of ‘bad’ loans
  • Why payday loans and pawnshop loans are a terrible option
  • The real cost of using credit card cash advances

Chatham Railroad Museum
Thursday, August 17
10:00 am

Discover the story of Canada's railroads: how they began, what they've seen over the years, and what the future holds for them. Find out what it was like to work on the railroad and learn about the many colourful events that have happened on the rails. This 45 minute presentation is fully interactive with artifacts to see and hold, making history come alive for the audience. Ideal for ages 6 and up, but all ages are welcome.

Mini Maker Faire

Time: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Try out the library's collection of maker resources including our 3D printers, 3D scanner, snap circuits and much more! All ages. No registration required.
